MABS aims to help anyone affected by cancer. We can best explain what we do by highlighting the following:

What we can do for our patients:

We can provide TRANSPORT to and from hospital or clinic appointments.

Where possible, we can provide PATIENT ESCORTS if you do not have a family member or friend who can accompany you to your appointment we can arrange for one of our volunteers to go with you.

We have a panel of experienced TRANSLATORS/INTERPRETERS who are able to attend appointments with you should it be necessary. This service must be booked and approved through the Helpline prior to the appointment, otherwise we cannot cover the cost. We do, however, reserve the right to make a charge for this service.


Depending on your situation, our Volunteers may be willing to help around the house in the form of ironing, washing, gardening, walking the dog, or just visiting you now and then.

Our comprehensive stock of MOBILITY AND MEDICAL EQUIPMENT includes hospital beds, ripple mattresses, wheelchairs, walking frames, and other personal aids and these are available, on loan, to MABS patients.

We have INFORMATION PAMPHLETS OR BOOKLETS on cancers and their treatments, information on where to get specific items, and COUNSELLORS who can talk through any concerns you may have.

We can arrange for a qualified nurse to assist with home nursing but a contribution may be asked.

We have, in some areas, Hospice/Palliative Rooms for patients.

What we cannot do:

We are not a nursing service and therefore cannot provide 24 hour care. We will provide care assistance during daytime hours and work alongside the Spanish Palliative Care Team but night cover must be provided by the family, friends or an approved Nursing Agency.

We are unable to provide daily visits to patients in hospital.

We cannot provide regular updates to relatives or friends on a patients´ condition/status.

We do not and will not guarantee to provide the same Translator/Interpreter for each appointment or treatment.

We will not pay for translation assignments arranged directly with a Translator/Interpreter to ascertain a patient´s condition / prognosis.

We cannot assist in the event of a patient developing other illnesses or suffering an injury or requiring treatment for anything other than cancer.  

We cannot and do not provide medication.

We do not provide Translators/Interpreters for patient or patient’s family legal affairs.

We cannot and do not fund legal aid or legal assistance for patients or relatives.

We cannot lend free equipment to non-cancer sufferers.

We do not provide support and/or care to non-cancer sufferers.

We do not provide free transport/translators/interpreters to patients in event of a non-cancer illness or injury appointment.
